Principle colleagues use their CSR day in support of the Boy’s Brigade

Our vision at Principle is to “positively impact the every day lives of our communities” and we believe it is vital to contribute to the community in which we work and live, both as a business and as individuals. Our employees are actively encouraged to take part in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and we offer 1 day of extra leave per year for them to support an organisation, charity or event of their choice.

Three of the Principle team recently used their CSR day to support the Boy’s Brigade.

What is the Boy’s Brigade?

The Boy’s Brigade provide opportunities for children and young people to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment. The work they do enables young people to engage with others and encourages them to participate in activities and projects in which they can make a difference.

How did you get involved?

Some of the Principle team have grown up in Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade and attended from the ages of 5 to 18. Two of the Principle team have remained as Leaders within the Boys’ Brigade, affectionately known as the BB, since leaving school.

What did you get up to?

Except during the pandemic, the 3rd Warley Boys’ Brigade has held an annual summer camp, normally in Devon, for secondary school aged members to attend. Officers give up a week of their annual holiday to oversee these camps for which the parents and carers of the attendees are very grateful. During the week, there are a number of excursions such as quad biking, horse riding, mackerel fishing as well as sports and games taking place on site.

They camp in traditional canvas ridge tents and this year three of the Principle team travelled to an empty field in Lee, between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe in Devon, to help set up the camp site. A total of 12 ridge tents for sleeping quarters and a large marquee for eating and undercover events were put up by a team of eight volunteers. It’s hard, hot work but also very enjoyable.

Brett Williams, Managing Director commented:

“These adventures are great for the young people attending. Living away from home for a week, sharing time with others, trying new things and taking their turn in looking after the others by way or serving meals or even washing up! It is great that as the business continues to grow we can support corporate social responsibility activities such as this”.

The BB’s vision is “that children and young people experience life to the full”. We hope that the Principle team have helped with a step towards that vision for those attending this summer whilst they create memories and, potentially, the next generation of leaders.
